A Product Manager for a prop trading firm needs to think like a trader, talk like a platform engineer and reason like a fraud analyst - sometimes in the same meeting.
The texture of the role
Prop firms grow fast, then collide with risk reality. Trader-abuse, collusion, payout integrity and platform stability are all product concerns - not just ops concerns. The PM has to own the trade-offs:

1. **Trader empathy.** They have either traded themselves or shipped products to active traders. 2. **Risk fluency.** They know what a payout dispute looks like and how to instrument the system to catch it. 3. **Platform sense.** They can talk MT5, cTrader or FIX without needing a translator. 4. **Growth and retention.** They can balance evaluation conversion against trader churn after funding.
